High-flying Mumbai will face last season’s runner-up Chennai in Wednesday fixture of the Indian Football League 2020-21 to eye the top spot.

 

Team Preview 


Mumbai have the best opportunity to take the top spot from Mohun B, who lost its last encounter against Jamshedpur. .Lobero’s men have added nine points from the first four matches and occupy the second spot in the table. With one point, they will take the top spot in the table for the first time. In its last encounter, they defeated Odisha 2-0 and kept its third straight clean sheet of the season. 

Odisha started on a good note as they got an early opportunity from Diego Maurício's free-kick. Mumbai were awarded a penalty in the 30th minute, and Bartholomew Ogbeche scored Mumbai's opening goal. Before the half-time whistle, Rowllin Borges doubled the lead through a brilliant cross from Bipin. Odisha tried to break Mumbai’s defense, but they couldn’t find the goal. With Adam le Fondre and Bartholomew Ogbeche in the forward-line, Sergio Lobero created Mumbai the best-attacking unit. The dense should also be appreciated as they have conceded just one goal from four games and kept three clean-sheets. 

On the other hand, Chennai needs to find some improvement after dropping points in consecutive games. They defeated Jamshedpur in the first game 2-1, and in the next two matches, they didn’t even score a goal. After settling for a goalless draw with Kerala, Chennai lost against Bengaluru on Friday. The Blues earned a penalty in the 56th minute, and Sunil Chhetri scored the goal. Csaba Laszlo needs to change the approach for the next fixture. 

Isma Goncalves didn’t score in the last two matches, but he is looking for the goal after an impressive show in both matches. Vishal Kaith also made a crucial long-range save from a shot by Dimas Delgado. Anirudh Thapa left the ground in the first half due to an ankle injury, so he might be rested for a couple of games. In head-to-head matches, Chennai has the most wins between two sides. Chennai have defeated the Islanders six times in the previous 12 meetings.

  Bengaluru will take on the high-flying Northeast in the Tuesday encounter of the Indian Football League 2020-21 . Both sides are coming off a victory by keeping a clean sheet.  Team Preview  Bengaluru will meet North East in today’s Indian Football League encounter.
