Jamshedpur vs Chennai, Indian Football League 2020-21, Match Prediction
Last season's beaten finalist, Chennai, will start their Indian Football League 2020-21 campaign underway with a clash against Jamshedpur. The Blues lost to Kolkata in the final before finishing 4th in the table and Jamshedpur failed to qualify for the third consecutive season.
Team Preview
Two-times Indian Football League winner Chennai faces a task against his former manager Owen Coyle in Tilak Maidan. Coyle had a successful season as the head coach with two silverware and a decent AFC campaign. The Southern outfit has appointed Hungarian Csaba Laszlo as their new manager.
Chennai made several changes in its foreign unit with five new overseas players. Anirudh Thapa has a big responsibility in the Indian unit along with Lallianzuala Chhangte. Jerry Lalrinzuala, Edwin Sydney Vanspaul, Vishal Kaith, and Germanpreet Singh are other young Indian talents in Chennai. Their Indian players were available last season and played the final against Kolkata.
The Blues have suffered two defeats in pre-season friendlies as Mumbai and Goa ran out the winners by keeping the clean sheet. Before going into the main season, they edged past Odisha 2-1, thanks to Thapa and Rahim Ali's goals.
On the other hand, Jamshedpur appointed Coyelo as their new head coach, who joined Chennai in mid-season transfer in 2019-20 and guided Chennai to the third Indian Football League final. Coyelo has the massive responsibility to deliver some magic to a struggling unit that haven't made it into the playoffs since their debut. In the previous season, the Red Miners finished eighth from 18 matches with four wins and six draws.
The new manager Coyelo also got Laldinliana Renthlei from his former club. Nicholas Fitzgerald and David Grande can also help Lithuanian in forward. Jamshedpur appointed the new signing, Peter Hartley as their new captain who will charge this club in center-back with Nigerian Stephen Eze. The previous edition's Golden Boot winner Nerijus Valskis, will also wear red this season.
In pre-season, Jamshedpur failed to make any win out of three games. They scored twice against Goa but still lost, and Kerala kept a clean sheet by scoring three goals. In the last pre-season fixture, they held North East to a goalless draw.
