North East vs Mumbai, Indian Football League 2020-21, Match Prediction
Mumbai and North East square off in the second encounter of Indian Football League 2020-21 at Tilak Maidan Stadium. For this season, both sides signed new managers Sergio Lobera and Gerard Nus, respectively.
Team Preview
The man who led FC Goa to the glorious campaign in 2019-20 is Mumbai's new head coach. Goa topped the table and won the League Winners Shield trophy and the AFC Cup qualification. Sergio Lobera has a big responsibility to better off their last season’s performance when they finished 5th.
The Spaniard also called Hugo Boumous and Mourtada Fall from his former side. Mumbai signed Vikram Pratap Singh and Mohammad Rakip on a free transfer from Kerala. Their big deal came in the name of last season’s top-scorer Bartholomew Ogbeche.
From A-League, they signed Adam le Fondre, who scored 20 goals for Sydney to win the title in 2019-20. HernĂ¡n Santana, and Goddard are the other signings from A-League. Fondre and Ogbeche’s performance would propel their chances in the playoffs.
Mumbai showed their top game in pre-season friendly, winning three out of four, including a draw. They held strong Kerala to a goalless draw and defeated Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad by keeping a clean-sheet thrice.
Their record against the North East makes them firm favourites on Saturday. The Islanders have lost just one of their last eight meetings with North East. The Highlanders played a draw and won one from the previous three against Mumbai, but this new Mumbai unit looks tough to beat.
North East had a poor campaign in 2019-20, finishing second from the bottom. They are coming off a 14-game winless streak. Gerard Nus will now take charge of this club as the new head coach. In pre-season friendly outings, the Highlanders defeated Hyderabad 2-1 and played a goalless draw with Jamshedpur.
North East has signed Portuguese winger Luis Machado, Guinean international Idrissa Sylla, and former Crystal Palace striker Kwesi Appiah. From Mohun Bagan, they have included full-back Ashutosh Mehta.
