Chennai vs Bengaluru, Indian Football League 2020-21, Match Prediction

Two South Indian clubs, Chennai and Bengaluru, square off in the Friday encounter of Indian Football League 2020-21. The irony is that both sides are entering into this encounter with a goalless draw in the previous outing.

Team Preview

Previous season’s silverware winner Chennai failed to score a goal against Kerala to share the spoils in its second encounter. Csaba Laszlo’s side started the campaign with a 2-1 victory against Jamshedpur. The first-half strikes from Anirudh Thapa and Goncalves assured three points against the Red Miners. It was the first victory for Laszlo as the new head coach.

In matchweek three, Chennai dropped two points. Both sides fought hard in the first half but didn’t add a goal to the scoreline. The first half ended with no scoring, and in the second half, the Blues were awarded a penalty, but Jakub Sylvester didn’t use it as Albino Gomes showed remarkable intent. Esmael Goncalves and Jakub Sylvestr didn’t provide the scoring and missed some easy sitters. The Blues failed to live up to the expectations on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru also saw a similar result in its match week two fixture. It was a consecutive draw for Carles Cuadrat’s men. Bengaluru failed to convert clear chances against Hyderabad. Cleiton Silva and Juanan delivered a 2-0 lead for Bengaluru in the opening encounter, but Igor Angulo spoiled all the effort by scoring twice in the second half. Carles Cuadrat’s side has the best Indian forward line, but they didn’t see any positive approach, especially the skipper Sunil Chhetri who scored nine goals in the last edition. Udanta has also offered poor crosses in both matches.

Both sides had a formidable record in head-to-head games at Indian Football League. Chennai and Bengaluru both have won three matches each. In last season, Bengaluru won the first-leg 3-0, and in 2nd leg, both sides appeared in a goalless draw.
